  1. Present an example of a company that has worked with ethical standards and it is well recognized in the business environment for their contributions.
The 4ocean company is a company that sells bracelets made from recollecting plastics from the beach. They raise awareness of the ocean plastic crisis. For every product sold, they pull one pound of trash from the ocean, rivers and coastlines. They develop new products, open new cleanup locations and hire more crew to help clean the ocean.

Why do you think customers in Mexico demand less products that are sustainable than in countries such as Germany, France, etc. How can we encourage customers to desire and buy these products?

I think in Mexico we are used to use a lot of plastic and other non sustainable products, for example when we go to the market, it is easier to use plastic bags than carrying the eco friendly bags that you can buy there. Or sometimes we see more practical the use of plastic water bottles instead of using normal cups. And in other countries they are maybe used to recycling or using eco friendly products because people get used to it and try.
You can encourage people to buy sustainable products by:
Increasing the percentage of product sales for them to go to charity
Make them feel good about the ethical product instead of guilty because of buying an unethical product.
    Offer discounts

Earth-First is their commitment to make choices in a world where the planet and its people come first, always. Their mission Isco improve the environment , like planting trees because it’s one of the best ways to create a more sustainable future. They’re constantly looking at innovative ways to make apparel with the smallest possible footprint and create more circular supply chains. To give you some context, a tentree sweatshirt uses on average 75% less water to make that the other sweatshirts in your closet. I believe that what this brand has done is extremely relevant because they’re not only helping the environment but also promoting to other companies to do the same and in an ethical way because their factories create their product in safe, working conditions.

Mexico is still a 3rd world country and its still developing, it does not have an stable infrastructeure yet, unlike Germany, France, and all the countries pushing for more green alternatives.
In 2019, 78% of people in Mexico do not change nothing in their lives to live sustainably or to take care of the enviroment.

People find normal products more cheap and practical than going out of their way to get green alternatives. They are not conscious of the ambiental problem and they don´t care enough to make a change. Only 3% of people take few actions to reduce their plastic waste, showing an incredible 97% of people that do not take any action against plastic waste.

We could fund more products so they can be in the supermarkets, encourage the biggest brands in Mexico to take serious action to reduce their waste in their fabrics, or encourage them to make sustainable products so they can be more accesible to the general public. We can also pressure the government to put more laws and restrictions to big companies so they do not produce waste or unnecessary emissions.

When a business acts with ethical standards they are most likely to be successful, since the environment in the workplace is totally different to a business who doesn’t put the happiness of their customers and workers as a priority in order to achieve all their goals.

In the recent years there has been major success stories of companies that have gone out of their way to make sourcing and manufacturing both ethical and responsible. These companies not only boosted the reputation of their brands, but also ensured that workers on their supply chains were being treated well.
Patagonia is one example of these companies. These is an American outdoor clothing company, has used organically grown cotton for all its products, since switching from pesticide p- heavy cotton crops in 1994.
They affected their entire supply chain to ensure environmentally friendly, safe working conditions. Patagonia also provides excellent health insurance and gives paid paternity and maternity leave for all of its workers.

Everything Patagonia has changed to be a more ethical business, has totally built a strong reputation for being ethical and responsible. This reputation is positive and strengthens its brand, it also makes customers conscious and incentive to buy from them than other brands.

  5. The name of the company I chose is “The Nature Conservancy”, which according to Smith (2013) in an article by Forbes, is one of the most ethical companies in the world. This company focuses on addressing biodiversity loss and climate change, using science to determine how to achieve the lasting results we need to see this decade (TNC Code of Conduct, 2021). They apply their innovation and expertise to the most urgent priorities the planet and people are facing. Their mission is to conserve the lands and waters on which all life depends.

Some of the things they do that characterize their ethical standards, their way of working, and how they conduct themselves for having tangible and lasting results are:

    • They have the highest ethical and professional standards.
    • Being liable to each other, their mission, donors, members, partners, and the public.
    • Earning trust by building relationships, being proficient, and fulfilling their commitments.
    • This company thinks that having success in the conservation of the project depends on the active involvement of people that are linked to the natural systems they want to conserve. They believe that they must give respect to the people, communities, and cultures, by respecting their needs, values, and traditions. Never forgetting that the relationships are mutual benefit and trust.
    • They demonstrate their respect with awareness and sensitivity to their economic realities.
    • The Nature Conservancy works collaboratively with different sectors of society, including indigenous people, for them to have the best practical conservation solutions.
    • They create a diverse, inclusive, and equitable staff and organization that reflects their global character and take advantage of their differences for being more effective in achieving their mission.
    • This company works together in different local places and countries to achieve its global mission, valuing the collective and collaborative efforts that are applied.
    • They try to use the best available conservation science to set priorities, make decisions, act, and measure results.
    • The Nature Conservancy conducts its business in an environmentally sensitive manner.

  6. Present an example of a company that has worked with ethical standards and it is well recognized in the business environment for their contributions.
Businesses have an obligation to conduct themselves professionally to best serve their customers and employees. Operating by a list of ethical standards helps businesses navigate challenges, provide exceptional service and retain quality employees.

Ethics is having a sense of what’s right and wrong, evaluating situations and making smart decisions based upon your personal and/or professional values. The same set of ethics can be applied to both personal and professional situations and environments, but do not need to be. You can, for example, have a different set of beliefs for your personal life than you do as an employee, manager or owner.

Personal ethics are often a set of beliefs specific to an individual and based upon experience, family and community. For example, you may hold strong beliefs about honesty, integrity and responsibility.

Business ethics are a set of moral guidelines that influence how a company serves its customers and treats its employees and is often based upon the personal ethics of the company’s owner or manager. Every industry and individual business has its own ethical conduct that affects its organizational procedures and systems.

    Example of a company:
Starbucks is committed to 100% sustainably sourced coffee, and uses a system called C.A.F.E. (Coffee and Farmer Equity Practices) in order to optimize its sustainable sourcing. There are four ideas at the heart of Starbucks’ C.A.F.E. sourcing system: quality, economic transparency, social responsibility, and environmental leadership. Starbucks strives to always buy coffee at fair prices and ensure each step of the coffee planting, harvesting, processing and purchasing is always done ethically. The coffee giant even uses third parties to verify that its sourcing is ethical. The standards set by Starbucks are now recognized as the industry standard for ethical sourcing. Starbucks works with over 170,000 farmers and generates billions of dollars in revenue every single year. Its ability to remain both profitable and set the industry standard for sustainability has been a shining example for North America’s coffee industry.

IBM has been named one of the world's most ethical companies for the second consecutive year by the Ethisphere Institute, an organization dedicated to defining and promoting standards of ethical business practices worldwide.

IBM has sought to earn and maintain the trust of our customers, partners, employees and people in the many thousands of communities where we live and work.

Much consideration is given to the impact of IBM's products and operations on the environment, the sustainability of its global supply chain, and the governance, ethics and integrity of how they introduce emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) to the world. And this earned trust is why 95 percent of Fortune 500 companies trust IBM to manage their data.

The company's long-standing commitment to integrity is the foundation of its business philosophy, which sets IBM apart with clients, suppliers, partners, employees and communities, and demonstrates that its employees continue to make the right decisions every day for all of its stakeholders.

For example, IBM spent $25.8 billion with a global network of more than 13,000 suppliers in 2018, which is an opportunity to promote its values and help drive socioeconomic progress.

Since the inception of its business, IBM has embraced policies that promote inclusion and treat people with dignity and respect. That legacy continues today, from its commitment to genetic privacy and LGBTQ equality for our employees to advocating for public policies that reflect its values.

This company is full of ethical values, sincere and honest people as they fulfill everything required to be a successful company without lying and misrepresentation in their proposals and behind their products. Their focus is to make their customers happy in an ethical way and to make the world a healthier place.

Space X is a well known company from the United Sates of America, Space X is an space exploration and delivery company, which focuse on making and reusing rockets to minimize ocean and space pollution, instead of dumping they’re rockets on the ocean after the first flight, the rockets are program and designed to touch down on a landing plataform, on sea or on a space port.
Space X has been the first to fully reutilize an entire rocket stablishing what should be the next industry standard, this would make the rocket industry way more eco-friendly and boost the rocket launches per year, this is a bit contradictory because more rockets equals more pollution but the process of making them produces a lot of waste, so a balance would need to be found

Sadly Mexicans do not demand eco-friendly products, this is mostly due to desinformation on the low socioeconomic classes, since they don’t fully understand the porpose of them or the consequences of not using them, the easiest way to spread information about the implications of not using them, things like ocean pollution, forest and jungle pollution across Mexico, another way to start making this products more popular is by trying to reduce the price and make them more attractive to the average costumer

I choose Patagonia because is widely known as an outdoor and adventure-wear brand that leads the way on taking care of our earth. With a mission statement to “build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to inspire and implement solutions to the environmental crisis”. So basically the brand wants to protect the environment.

Patagonia has a high proportion of its materials made from recycled fabrics, including its polyester, nylon, and wool. Patagonia helped gathering the top leaders in the apparel industry, non-governmental organizations, academia and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for an inaugural meeting in 2010 to determine the feasibility of working together to create an index of social and environmental performance. We are happy to report that today there are 49 members of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition, which represent nearly a third of all clothing and footwear sold on the planet.

It rejects fast fashion by creating high-quality, long-lasting products. Patagonia recognizes that buying less is one of the major steps shoppers can take to reduce their own eco footprint

As we all know Mexico is a 3rd world country, this means that it’s still developing in some aspects. In the case of Germany, France, and other countries like this, we can see that they have developed a better structure, they have better structure, better health services, and ofcourse better education.

In this blog I want to focus on this last aspect. I think that this is the main reason why Mexicans don’t have this ecologic consciousness because of the education they received. In 1st world countries we see that their education encourages kids and their families to try and be more eco friendly, their education about what products are better for the environment, or how to recycle.

Mexico doesn’t have this in all schools, so the kids that aren’t receiving this information don’t develop this ecological consciousness. They think that global warming is a myth or isn’t important as they say. The amount of garbage generated per day in Mexico is 1.16 million kilos of garbage daily. This makes Mexico the country that generates the most garbage in Latin America.

Schools aren’t the only reason why there is no change here, there’s also a very important factor that is the economical resources of the people. A lot of the population in Mexico can’t afford the prices of eco-friendly products, so they prefer to buy the same ones as ever.

    B) Why do you think customers in Mexico demand less products that are sustainable than in countries such as Germany, France, etc. How can we encorage customers to desire and buy these products?

I think that mexico needs more education so that we can be capable of understanding why buying sustainable products its better for us than just buying plastics that create pollution. A lot of people still do not get that we only have one planet and its important to take care of it, if we don’t do that things can get a lot worse. Other countries have implemented more educación about being eco friendly, they take into their advantage young people to take care of the planet. That know that if there is a way to change our path its with young generations and this has helped them to take care of the planet. So i think its important for mexico to create conscience to start making a change. And a way to encourage them to buy this sustainable products its to make them more attractive and make it seem that they are needed and maybe make the cheaper, a lot of people do not buy them because them seem and sometimes are very expensive so if it helps the environment and want to make everyone use it or buy them they probably should be more affordable por people that want to make this change.

    B) Why do you think customers in Mexico demand less products that are sustainable than in countries such as Germany, France, etc. How can we encorage customers to desire and buy these products?

I think the main problem is that Mexico needs more education so that we can understand why buying sustainable products is better for us than buying contaminated plastics. Other countries have implemented greener education and use young people to care for the earth. Let them know that if there is a way to change our path, it is the younger generation that will help them take care of the planet. That is why I think it is important for Mexico to develop awareness to start making changes. One way to encourage them to buy these sustainable products is to make them more attractive, make them seem necessary, maybe make them cheaper, many people do not buy them because they look and sometimes they are very expensive, so if it helps, the environment and I hope that everyone do it. To use or buy them, they should probably be more affordable for people who want to make this change.

For the economically disadvantaged groups, especially those living in poverty, the lack of participation in the formal financial system is even more serious. Poverty is one of the factors that has the greatest impact on our people and on the world's society. From the perspective of tortured people, this is a situation that prevents them from realizing their full human potential. As Amartya Sen (1999) said, poverty is not only the lack of money and the possibility of developing the potential of human life, but also an enormous social loss of talents. According to international indicators calculated by the World Bank, Mexico is a country with a very low rate of extreme poverty.

IBM was named the most ethical company of the year in 2020. In a recent survey conducted by IBM at Morning Consult, more than 7,000 people in 14 countries were asked to rate the perceived value of companies' efforts to improve their workforce. The study found that 80% of people surveyed around the world agree that companies have a responsibility to put their employees, the environment, and their communities first and generate value for their shareholders. In 2018, IBM spent $ 25.8 billion with a global network of more than 13,000 resellers, which will increase value, stimulate socio-economic growth. They have worked with suppliers for 50 years to identify requirements, assess compliance with sustainable solutions, and increase supply chain diversity. IBM's policy is to encourage participation and to treat people with dignity and respect. This legacy continues to this day, from our commitment to genetic confidentiality and the equality of LGBTQ people to their employees, to the introduction of public policies that reflect our values. IBM's principles of trust and transparency reflect innovations in our ethics, where technology increasingly impacts all aspects of society. So, IBM has been a company that have worked with a lot of respect to the ethical values.

Sustainable development is one that meets the needs of present generations without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. Among the key factors it includes are population growth, energy demand, climate change, scarcity of resources and water, and waste management. The economic, ecological and social needs in Mexico are the great challenges to progress in terms of sustainability. In Mexico, public spending for environmental protection does not represent even 1% of total PIB . The use of hydrocarbons is the main contributor to environmental depletion, emissions of air pollutants and mobile sources are the main causes of environmental degradation. The road to a country with sustainable development requires efforts made from the public perspective and monitoring the progress they may generate. We have not been able to effectively integrate an environmental agenda that is truly transversal in government actions and in which all orders and levels of government and sectors are somehow responsible. I believe that informing and educating people of all the benefits of sustainable materials could be a great step for example that they save you money and basically improves the quality of our lives, protects our ecosystem and preserves natural resources for future generations.

The ethical standards of a business are a key factor in how that business is defined. A business's reputation impacts its customers, employees, potential for growth and overall success. A business organization that exemplifies integrity in its products, services and actions holds itself up to high ethical standards on all three levels.
International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) is an American multinational technology corporation, which was named one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute, an organization devoted to defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices across the globe. IBM’s Principles of Trust and Transparency are just a reflection of a new era of ethics–one where technology increasingly influences every aspect of society, from how government services are delivered, to how we shop and entertain ourselves, to how our children learn, and also to how physicians treat patients. This is why in the connected world of the 21st century, ethical behavior is both the right thing to do and the best business approach. The most successful organizations always focus on values and purpose to drive their long-term thinking and make the world a better place for all of its stakeholders. This has been IBM’s approach for more than a century and it is how they will continue to think and operate as new technologies arise and shape our life and our society.

As well, consider the introduction of the principal concepts of a business and their personal contribution with the market. In this text, we are going to answer with official information our quote that relates the Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility in the business environment.

To start, an important example according to: Borja V. (2019), mention that: In the community of companies in Spain, the CaixaBank Foundation, is one of the most recognized company on Spain because at their beginnings, this always reveals to their customers, their interest with corporate social responsibility, in relation with the commerce of their principal groups and according with their financial statistics, the company in 2019 could move more than 8,900 employees and customers, to make financial services in benefit for the companies and project of economic development.

As it says in the last quote, we have to consider first how ethics involve business, this fact relates with how the company interacts with their goods and services to their customers, how they use their unique resources and how they compromise themselves to be clear and clean of any approach.
